Mets signs Taijuan Walker to boost initial rotation

The Mets have agreed their deals with starting pitcher Taijuan Walker, according to several reports.

Joel Sherman of The Post reported that the deal is for three years and $ 23 million, with the third year as a player option. If Walker rejects the option, the deal will be two years to $ 20 million. The agreement is pending implementation.

Walker, 28, has appeared in 108 games over eight MLB seasons with the Diamondbacks, Mariners and Blue Jays. Throughout his career, he has compiled an ERA of 3.84 in 581.2 entries.

Walker underwent Tommy John surgery in 2018 while he was with the Diamondbacks and appeared in a single game in 2019. He returned to the Mariners in 2020 and was traded mid-season to the Blue Jays.

In his first full season after surgery, Walker recorded an ERA of 2.70 in 11 starts, his second-best mark in a season behind just in 2014. He will likely enter the Mets rotation alongside Jacob DeGrom, Carlos Carrasco, Marcus Stroman and Noah Syndergaard when he returns from his own Tommy John surgery.
