NASA reveals two first photos of Mars taken by the Perseverance rover

A few minutes after NASA Rover of perseverance stuck his landing on Mars, sent us two historical images: our first views of the red planet from the dodges Crater Lake.

Percy, as the rover’s nickname, got the “seven minutes of terror“Thursday: A series of traffic or landing events to land. A successful landing was announced just before 4 p.m. (ET) at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in California.

“The touchdown has been confirmed! Perseverance is safe on the surface of Mars, ready to start looking for signs of past life.” Swati Mohan, a JPL guidance, navigation and telemetry control officer, called as the rover landed. Social distance flight engineers erupted in applause and applause as they breathed collectively.

Moments later, scientists received the first two images of the rover, showing a rocky view of the rover’s new home.

This is the first image that NASA’s Perseverance rover sent after touching Mars on February 18, 2021. The view, from one of Perseverance’s danger cameras, is partially obscured by a dust cover.

One of the rover’s risk-avoidance cameras, which primarily helps drive, fired black-and-white shots. The camera is partially covered by a clear protective cover. Rear images of the rover will be higher resolution.

Percy himself can also be seen in the first image: his great shadow announces his arrival.

The photos mark one of the rover’s first successes and show the team on Earth arriving safely on Mars.

“Hello, world. My first look at my home forever,” the rover said he tweeted on arrival.

“And another look behind me. Welcome to Jezero Crater,” the rover tweeted after landing.

President Joe Biden saw the rover land live from the White House.

“Congratulations to NASA and everyone’s hard work has made the historic landing of Perseverance possible,” he said. he tweeted. “Today we have shown once again that, with the power of American science and ingenuity, nothing is beyond the realm of possibility.”

The scientists said they expect to see “pretty spectacular” video and audio images, as well as additional photos, over the next few days.

The rover, NASA’s most sophisticated to date, will soon begin its search for signs of ancient life. Billions of years ago, Jezero Crater was home to a large lake and Percy will collect samples that will be the first to make the journey to Earth for scientists to examine.

During the first month, they also plan to test a small 4.5-pound, $ 80 million helicopter called Ingenuity. He will attempt the first motorized flight in Martian air, a “Wright brothers moment” in another world.
