(Reuters) – Facebook Inc.’s WhatsApp said on Thursday it will go ahead with its controversial privacy policy update, but will allow users to read it at its own pace and will also display a banner that will provide additional information.

In January, the messaging platform informed users that it was preparing a new privacy policy, through which it could share limited user data with Facebook and its group companies.

It caused a worldwide outcry and sent users to rival applications of Telegram and Signal, among others, which caused WhatsApp to delay the launch of the new policy until May and the update focused on allowing users send messages with companies and would not affect personal conversations.

In India, the largest user base for the messaging app, Facebook executives sent questions from a parliamentary group about the need for the changes, days after the country’s technology ministry asked the messaging platform that would remove them.

In its latest blog bit.ly/3ufc9Eq, WhatsApp said it will start reminding users to check and accept updates to continue using the messaging platform.

“We have also included more information to try to solve the problems we feel,” he added.

The WhatsApp announcement comes as Facebook, one of the parents, blocked all news content in Australia on Thursday, facing reaction from publishers and politicians, prompting a senior British lawmaker to consider the measure. as an attempt to harass a democracy.
