Even the Muppets are “offensive” these days.
Anyone who broadcasts “The Muppet Show” on Disney + will first see a legal notice warning of “offensive content.”
Disney launched five seasons of the iconic show on Friday, which allowed viewers to see Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear and their guests as part of the $ 6.99 a month service.
The disclaimer shown before each episode warns viewers that the show features “stereotypes” and “mistreatment of people or cultures”.
“This program includes negative representations and / or ill-treatment of people or cultures. These stereotypes were wrong then and now they are wrong, ”the waiver statement states.
“Instead of eliminating this content, we want to recognize its harmful impact, learn from it and provoke conversations to create a more inclusive future together,” the says the disclaimer.
“Disney is committed to creating stories with inspiring and inspiring themes that reflect the rich diversity of the human experience around the world,” the statement added.
It doesn’t explain exactly what Disney considers offensive in the show, but some characters represent Native American, Oriental, and Asian people.
And in the fifth season, the legendary country singer Johnny Cash is seen performing in front of a Confederate flag.
The warning will also appear in front of some iconic films, such as “Aristocats”, “Dumbo”, “Peter Pan” and “Swiss Family Robinson”.
