Bassist Derrick Lewis delivered a second version of Curtis Blaydes in the second round on Saturday night for an impressive upset at the main event of the UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas.
Lewis connected on just seven total hits (compared to Blaydes ’28), but made the final count, winning the KO / TKO at 1:26 of the second round to improve to 25-7.
Blaydes was unconscious when he hit the carpet.
“That was the only punch I expected throughout the fight,” Lewis said. “I knew he would come in … That was all I expected. I didn’t care to throw one of two, a punch or anything.”
Blaydes (14-3, 1 NC) entered the fight with a UFC heavyweight record in 59 eliminations, but failed to score any against Lewis.
Lewis, meanwhile, entered the fight with more playoffs in UFC heavyweight history and added another for his fourth straight win. In doing so, Lewis broke Blaydes ’four-win streak.
