Kate Winslet struggled to feel beautiful after cruel jokes were made about her weight in the 90s

Kate Winslet has revealed that her confidence was a success when the weight was examined when she was about twenty and starting in the world of acting.

The 45-year-old movie star explained that a series of cruel comments “altered her impression of beauty” and lamented the fact that she was called “frank” when she tried to defend herself.

When Kate appeared on the Titanic in 1997 alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, comedian Joan Rivers joked, “If I had just lost 5 pounds, Leo would have been able to fit in the raft.”

Speaking to The Guardian, Kate recalled, “At the age of twenty, people talked a lot about my weight. And they would call me to comment on my physical self. Well, then I have that ball tag and frank. No, I was just defending myself.

Asked if the remarks about her weight had any impact, Kate revealed, “It damaged my confidence. I didn’t want to go to Hollywood because I remember thinking, ‘God, if that’s what I’m told in England, what will happen?’ when do you get there? “

Also, it alters your evolution from the impression of what is beautiful, you know? I felt very alone. For the simple reason that nothing can really prepare you for this.

Kate also talked about her role in Ammonite, about self-taught real-life geologist Mary Anning, and her romance with future scientist Charlotte Murchison, played by Saoirse Ronan.

The actress said working on the film made her realize how the film has “objectified women forever” and that there was a great sense of “equality” in the project.

Her co-star Saoirse previously detailed why she was not nervous about becoming intimate with Kate in the romantic drama set in 1840 England.

She told The Sunday Telegraph: “I wasn’t nervous, no. I never feel nervous doing sex scenes because I’ve always worked with trusted people, who are massive, and I know not everyone can say that.

The five-time Oscar nominee added that the fact that the director, Francis Lee, let the couple move freely with the “choreography” of the scenes helped make them both comfortable.

“It was great to have that authority over these intimate scenes, which can often make you feel incredibly vulnerable, but instead we felt empowered,” Saoirse said.

“We really felt like we were steering the boat. There was a plan in place for us that we created for ourselves, so there were no surprises and nothing was unexpected.

Elsewhere in her interview, Kate admitted that she now regrets working with directors Woody Allen on Wonder Wheel in 2017 and Roman Polanski on Carnage, published in 2011, following allegations of sexual assault against them.

She said: “I shouldn’t have worked with either Woody or Roman [Polanski], and I will probably always face these lamentations. It is now amazing to me that these men have been so respected in this industry and for so long.

However, Kate added that she would “challenge anyone” in the film industry to deny that parts of her films were highly coveted, something that has recently changed.

Polanski fled the United States in 1978 after being accused of raping a 13-year-old girl and has never returned.

Several other women have accused him of sexual misconduct in recent years, which he has denied.

Despite the allegations, Polanski won an Oscar in 2003 for directing the drama The Pianist of World War II, as well as the award for best director at the Caesar Awards in France last February which prompted several women to come out in protest.

Meanwhile, in 1992, it emerged that Allen, then 57, was having an affair with the adopted daughter of his partner Mia Farrow Soon-Yi Previn, who was then 21 years old.

After the outbreak of the scandal, Farrow and Allen had a bitter and public breakup, during which they accused the revered director of sexually assaulting his seven-year-old adopted daughter, Dylan.

Allen was investigated but was never charged and has since vehemently maintained his innocence.

The allegations were again made public with the #MeToo movement, as Allen’s son, journalist Ronan Farrow, supported allegations of abuse by his sister Dylan and mother Mia.
