It’s time to catch up
Players of Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition can get their hands on the new V-Shift mechanic for the first time tonight, and now we can see exactly how it works.
Capcom has now released the SF5 game tutorial for V-Shift and V-Shift Break, which completely breaks the new mechanic, including the damage it does and what happens if it is blocked.
As previously revealed, both the V-Shift and the V-Shift Break are performed by pressing a hard hit and a medium shot while a player has at least one stock of V-Gauge available.
What’s new, though, is that this confirms that V-Shift Break attacks will be safe above their wide range, so it seems like a fair compromise to only do recoverable damage.
Speaking of damage, we also see an example of combined tracking of the V-Shift, which does regular damage.
Not only that, but I tested it to see if the post-dodge attacks would be reduced immediately like V-Trigger activations. However, I can confidentially report that it looks like the combo is doing its normal damage without escalating.
The Break attack seems to do a comparable amount of damage compared to V-investments as well, surprisingly.
V-Shift will arrive on SF5 in the Season 5 update, which will officially be released tomorrow, though the servers will be up for maintenance today starting at 8 p.m.
