NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – New Braunfels Utilities officials announced Sunday that they plan to make a “one-time adjustment” to all customer bills after the winter storm.
According to a statement from the utility group, both residential and commercial accounts will be adjusted once to “help and assist” customers who may have higher bills due to freezing-related leaks or unusually high use of drip the faucet to prevent damage to the property.
“Our customers have had to endure unthinkable difficulties due to this extreme weather event,” Ian Taylor, executive director of the NBU, said in a statement. “We understand your concerns and want to do everything we can to help our community, facilitating the impact of your next bill.”
According to Taylor, the financial impact of the winter storm on customers in the New Braunfels area has not been “fully calculated,” but it can be considerable.
The utility group said it experienced an unusually strong rise in fuel costs and that the impact of the storm will continue “in the foreseeable future.”

While fuel charges are typically passed on to customers, NBU pursues “all the financing tools of our ability to spread the financial impact over the years,” the utility group said in a statement. “Distributing costs, if approved, will minimize the impact on customer affordability, which is important as everyone in our community and beyond has already gone through a very difficult time.”
In addition, the group said it also provides help and payment plans for bills to help those struggling to pay their bills.
