Globally, the United States has reported the majority of deaths due to coronavirus in any other country. Brazil, the country with the second highest number of coronavirus deaths, has reported about half the number the U.S. has.
The day before its inauguration, Biden held a lighting ceremony at the Lincoln Memorial to honor the dead due to COVID-19. Biden has pledged to vaccinate at least 100 million people in his first 100 days in office.
