More Americans are scheduled to move this year due to flexible work from home, which has led to the Covid-19 pandemic, market researcher The NPD Group said in a recent blog post.

Nearly 20 percent of the country’s people work from home full-time in December and 28 percent of Americans have considered moving during the pandemic, NPD said. In addition, 20% more consumers are expected to move this year compared to the previous year.

NPD comments arrive as winter goes down and the maximum months to move from May to September are ahead.

As people become more comfortable with the ability to work from anywhere, they realize that they don’t have to look at a particular place near an office to be able to provide themselves or their families. This gives them the opportunity to live in an area with a lower cost of living or closer to family, NPD said.

As a result of the growing interest in removals, sales of moving supplies and services have increased. Last year, online sales of mass storage and laptop categories grew at a rate five times faster than the previous year. NPD said it expects growth to continue until 2021. Sales also grew in office supply stores and hardware retailers.

According to NPD, mail and delivery supplies have also increased fivefold in 2020 over the previous year. These sales increased thanks to the purchase of corrugated boxes and packing tapes.

LinkedIn analyzed the major cities where U.S. workers moved from April 2020 to October 2020, with Austin, Texas and Phoenix, Arizona, at the top, largely due to ‘a cheaper cost of living.

NPD Group was not immediately available for comment.
