The legend is back. Today comes the arrival of Saikyo style master Dan Hibiki, who returns to the street fighter franchise as the first character of SFVfifth and final season of content. Capcom has released a launch trailer to remind the world, as if the world needs a reminder, of Hibiki’s incredible martial arts skill.
In related news, SFV players who have already had the good fortune to enter the ring with Dan already find some interesting secrets. As @discovigilante pointed out, it looks like Hibiki-san is once again bringing his love to teasing like never before, and will shoot a stance and be verbally boasted every time a player repeatedly touches crouched, conveniently disrespectful “T-Bag” maneuver. It seems that, in true Saikyo style, confident Dan players are unlikely to make it to STFU, but honestly, Hibiki-san wouldn’t have it any other way.
Along with Dan’s arrival, season 5 adds a new balance update, as well as the addition of the new “V-Shift” mechanic. At the expense of a V-bar, fighters will be able to make an invincible countercurrent, useful for relieving the pressure of block chains or attracting the opponent’s special. This new technique should offer a little more defensive options, which has always been lacking in the heavy offensive.
Season V will continue throughout 2021, adding DLC characters Rose, Oro, Rival Schools‘Akira, and a fifth character whose identity has not yet been revealed. Also joining the list is the weird, changing ticket form known as Eleven, which takes on the look and feel of a random game. SFV character of each round, testing the skills of either Street Fighter V expert.
