Cuban musicians Descemer Bé and Israel Rojas, director of the duo Bona Fe, held a controversy on social media regarding the issue of Homeland and Life.
The debate began as a result of a publication by troubadour Ray Fernández in which he shared a photo with the word “LEG” on his belly and a note that said, “You complete the title of my new subject,” a reference to the phrase Homeland and Life that Yotuel wore written on his chest in the music video for the recently released song.
The post generated a wave of comments involving musicians Adrià Berazaín and Israel Rojas, where they both joked about the title of Ray’s alleged song.
The next day, Bé shared a video on his Facebook to talk about the success of Homeland and Life, which was already over at that time the million views on YouTube.
In the direct one it made reference to several subjects, among them its relation with the dead musician Santiago Feliú, to that considers its teacher, and admires by its honesty that never allowed him to lie on the reality of Cuba.
In this sense, he compared Rojas and Berazaín to Raúl Torres, whom he considers the troubadour of the dictatorship, and questioned their uncritical position with the Government of Havana.
“It’s very easy to be a communist by getting on the planes of presidents who don’t let countries eat,” he said.
“The worst of all religions is ignorance and you are ignorant. You have all been taken to serve as agents of State Security,” he added.
Descemer clarified that the song Mother country and Life, in which it participates next to Yotuel, People of Zone, Maykel Osorbo and the Funky, was written directly by the dictatorship of the Castro. “If you guys are taking it personally it’s because you belong to this dictatorship, because you eat from it,” he said.
Israel Rojas responded to Descemer on his Facebook page and alluded to the relationship the two had in the past. Something Well had also commented on in his video when he talked about the song they both wrote together, Being of the Sun..
“Again, Descemer Well uses my name for something more than talking about songs. I’ve never had bad feelings for him, or said, or done anything against him. Think about how he thinks. Why would he? I have used social media to encourage hatred, conflict, or elucidate disagreements or misunderstandings. But sometimes things need to be made clear, “Israel began its post.
The director of the duo Bona Fe also referred to his relationship with Feliu, whom he said he admired for the great artist and Guevarian he was. “You lack the trust that Santiago placed in you in life, in order to invigorate an anemic and sterile attack on me, for pleasure,” he said.
He also clarified that he had no reason to envy Descemer. “When your former colleagues are now your enemies and your old enemies, they see you dragging, begging for attention, truces and agreements … everyone, (right or left) looks at you and sees nothing but to an Efialtes of Thessaly, ”he concludes.
The controversy did not end here, as Descemer responded to Rojas in another Facebook post where he called him a traitor to defend “those who have fucked him (in the Fatherland) for so many years and continue to do so.”
“Efialtes of Thessaly is a God of Greek Mythology who betrayed his homeland by helping enemies to win a battle and then had to flee. This is exactly what will happen to you who is who is in his homeland betrayed and helping those who have fucked him for so many years and continue to do so, ”he said.
“The reward they promised Efialtes for the betrayal he never saw … Just as you will not see the reward of those you defend today. They will not hesitate to turn against you in the first moment you stop serving them d ‘instrument and spokesperson,’ he added.
Descemer mentioned in his publication that he had left his country forced by the dictatorship that Israel defends. “But I carry my Homeland with me and that is why today I raise my voice for those who stayed and those who left,” he clarified.
“What had to run away one day and hide is you, when those of us who are struggling manage to change the future of the country. And then you will have the same guilt that charged the God of the mythology you call it,” he concluded.
The song Homeland and Life, released on February 17th, Has become a kind of anthem for many Cubans who support a change in the repressive policy that the island government has maintained for decades.
At the same time, government officials, public officials and members of civil society related to the Government, have launched strong criticism of the song and the musicians who perform it.
Less than a week after its release, the song is approaching two million views on Youtube.
