Gran Turismo July has been delayed until 2022.
The news comes from a GQ interview, of all places, with Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan. In the interview, Ryan presented a list of games that had remained a target for release despite the pandemic, which included Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart i Horizon Forbidden West, but did not include the actual driving simulator. Which motivated the interviewer to ask about GT7.
At the time, a Sony public relations representative jumped on the call promising a statement about GT7, probably in the hopes that we would actually ask about some of the many new announcements. You can read this statement below …
“GT7 has been impacted by Covid-related production challenges and will therefore change from 2021 to 2022. With the ongoing pandemic, it is a dynamic and changing situation and some critical aspects of game production have slowed in recent months. . We will share more details about GT7release date when available. “
I fully believed we would play GT7 this year. We approach four years later Gran Turismo Sport’s launch, and GT7 was mentioned during the 2021 launch several times in Sony’s marketing materials. At one point, it became apparent that the game fell in the second half of 2021, which didn’t come as much of a surprise as a box office release from GT7 caliber would probably be best during the holidays.
Besides, GT Sport already has a great base for GT7, i the only means of communication so far we have seen that the next title showed a similar game Sports, only more beautiful thanks to the advanced hardware of PlayStation 5. You would think that this would be a good omen for development, as it means that Polyphony Digital should not do a lot of weight to rebuild its game engine and so on for the new console, rather than focusing on adding content and publicizing the single-player campaign.
But COVID-19 got in the way, as COVID-19 will and will continue to do. Of course, any GT Fans will remind you that Polyphony doesn’t have a sterling story of game delivery on time, aside from the challenges posed by a global pandemic, and therefore perhaps we should have seen that. Either way, it won’t turn off the bite GT7 absence.
If there is a silver coating GT7 going into next year, I guess it’s because those who were waiting for the game to pull the trigger of a PS5 (raise your hand) can now afford to wait longer. The PS5s are still hard to find today, even almost four months since the system’s launch, so a little more breathing isn’t the worst thing in the world.

Unfortunately, GT7 The demise now leaves racing game fans with nothing major to look forward to over the next nine months. He Forza Motorsport restart it doesn’t look like it’s ready for release this year, judging by the few images of games in the engine that Microsoft showed in 2020. And while Codemasters is likely to have some projects underway, we still don’t know what they are. E3 should give us more information on these fronts, but so far things seem bleak.
