Based on the characters created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, the duo “Tom and Jerry” returns to the big screen with an action-packed tape and big chorus.
Set in New York, Tom and Jerry start by putting their fans up to date with the pair of friends-enemies. Well it turns out that now both are homeless on the streets of Manhattan. On the one hand, the little mouse “Jerry” is on a mission to find a new place to live. While, on the other hand, the cunning cat “Tom” continues to do his thing to be able to survive in the big city. But it’s not until “Jerry” discovers and ruins this evil “Tom” plan that this rivalry we all know and love is rekindled.
The film begins to get even more entertaining and full of action when the naughty mouse decides to move to the city’s most prestigious hotel. Place where the young “Kayla”, played by Chloë Grace Moretz (The Addams Family), just got a job after cheating and manipulating the hotel manager. Just some of the qualities that this character shares with our beloved protagonists, in addition to being the only person able to understand them. Now, in a desperate need to get “Jerry” to leave the hotel, before the most important wedding of the century takes place, “Kayla” turns to “Tom” to get rid of them together. Thus unleashing more chaos, violence and destruction, as only these two classic characters know how to deliver.
Directed by Tim Story (Fantastic Four) and produced by Christopher DeFaria (The Lego Movie 2), the film pays homage to animated cartoons by keeping them in 2D animation, as well as the ability to communicate. it is only through gestures and facial expressions. However, sharing the plot and their screen time with the rest of the cast did not help them reach their full potential. Of course, it does not take away from them that the film is entertaining, nostalgic and full of lessons, especially unity. Something that both characters rarely share on screen. But, let’s be honest, we like them more when they make life impossible, that’s what makes them more fun.
Chloë Grace Moretz, Michael Peña, Rob Delaney, Colin Jost and Ken Jeong star in the story directed by Tim Story.
Tom and Jerry premieres tomorrow in theaters and on the “streaming” platform HBO Max.
