Getting to Red Bull doesn’t matter the money, nor the sponsorship

In 2019, a series portrayed the Mexican pilot as a “rich” pilot and in the European press placed him as a ‘pay driver’

In 2020, Sergio Pérez made it clear, for those who did not understand before that he is an elite Formula One driver and that coming to Red Bull had nothing to do with the sponsorships that support him.

“When you’re on a team as big as Red Bull what matters least is the sponsorship you can bring or the money, it’s totally irrelevant,” he said in a conference express question about past comments to the European press that the they positioned it as a ‘pay driver’. “They can hire any driver on the grid. At these levels only someone who doesn’t understand the sport could say something like that.”

But this disdain for some media was evident in the series Netflix “Drive to Survive”, where in 2019 they portrayed ‘Czech’ as a “rich” pilot who therefore had his seat to the detriment of a “talented” like Esteban Ocon. Something that at the time was heavily criticized for bringing a script away from reality in a TV series.

After finishing fourth in the 2020 championship, even with two fewer races and the victory over Shakir, ‘Czech’ caught Red Bull’s attention who, seeing him without equipment, immediately contacted him to add. A talent they couldn’t pass up, Christian Horner said a few days ago.

Perez added that he is already waiting for his first victory with Red Bull, since after knowing what it is the checkered flag in his career has developed an “addictive feeling” and he wants to do it again.

On his plans after 2021, he sees nothing but the red bull in his future.

“I come to Red Bull to stay for many years, but to win championships.”
