Renowned Cuban actress and announcer Martha Velasco, the remembered Teresa guitar ‘Teté’, from ‘Alegries de Sobretaula’, died on Friday in Havana at the age of 95, she reported Clock radio.
Martha developed an extensive career in television, theater and national radio, although it was in the latter medium that she worked most, both in dramatic and humorous spaces.
In recognition of his work for more than half a century as the protagonist of novels, short stories, plays and series on the radio station Ràdio Progrés, he received the National Radio Award for the Work of Life.
“Yes, I trained in radio traveling through almost every station in Havana, which was like thirty or more,” he said in an interview on the Cuban radio website.
Born in the Cuban capital on November 1, 1925, Martha Velasco made her debut at the age of 17 in the role of Doña Inés, in the play ‘Don Juan Tenorio’, for the station Potser-Seigle. He later studied stage performance and declamation at the School of Fine Arts of the Galician Center in Havana.
Among the characters that the actress remembered most fondly were the protagonists of the novel ‘The color purple’ and the play ‘The house of Bernarda Alba.
He also worked for the important RHC Cadena Blava station. Among the actors with whom he shared microphones throughout his life are Julio Alberto Casanova, Raquel Revuelta, Pastor Felip, Raúl Selis and Miguel Navarro, among others.
For her artistic merits she was also awarded the Distinction for National Culture, the Artist Medal of Merit for Radio and Television and the Alejo Carpentier Medal.
By family decision, his body will be cremated.
