MADRID – Former Wimbledon champion Conchita Martinez tested positive for coronavirus.
In a message on social media on Saturday, Martinez indicated that he is in quarantine at a Doha hospital after testing positive on arrival in Qatar.
Martinez is the coach of former world number one Garbiñe Muguruza, who will start playing in the Qatar Open on Monday.
The 48-year-old Spaniard indicated she had “mild symptoms” of covid-19.
“I am hopeful that I will soon be able to continue this tour of the Middle East,” Martinez wrote. “At the moment I will be developing my functions by videoconference and permanently connected with Garbiñe.”
Martinez won Wimbledon in 1994 and helped Spain win five Fed Cups in the 1990s. She was selected for the Tennis Hall of Fame last year.
