Two dead babies tested positive for COVID-19 in Israel

Two babies killed in Israel by mothers infected with COVID-19 have also tested positive for coronavirus, with at least one of the deaths blamed for the infection, according to a report.

A woman in her 36th week of pregnancy lost her child to being born at Mefar Medical Center in Kfar Saba on Saturday after falling ill with COVID-19, the Times of Israel said.

Evidence showed that the fetus was also infected, but the hospital did not immediately blame the death of the pandemic.

However, the probable cause of death was declared in an almost identical case last week when a 29-year-old woman lost her child in the 25th week of pregnancy in Ashdod, the medium said.

“The fetus became infected through the placenta and with a high degree of certainty, [we can say] died of the coronavirus, “Dr. Tal Brosh, head of the infectious diseases department at Assuta Hospital, told Ynet News.

It was the first such case to be reported in Israel, although others have previously been reported in Brazil, according to the report.

“This is a rare fact because a baby usually becomes infected with coronavirus after birth, as a result of contact with the mother,” said Dr. Yossi Tobin, the hospital’s maternity ward director.

“The fact that we could have known that they were already positive in the womb indicates a high probability that [the fetus] died as a result of the coronavirus “.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that pregnant women be vaccinated, but mostly lists the health hazards of the mother rather than their children.

“People pregnant with COVID-19 may be at increased risk of having adverse effects on pregnancy, such as a premature birth,” the CDC warned.
