The United States asks not to claim that there is fraud where it does not exist

Brendan O’Brien, the U.S. embassy’s business manager, said we need to wait for the results and we need to do it patiently.

U.S. Embassy Charge d’Affaires Brendan O’Brien said this morning that his government supports fair, transparent and peaceful elections.

“The important thing is not to say that there is fraud where there is no fraud. It is important to wait for the results and I think democracy decided for the Salvadorans,” O’Brien asked.

He further argued that the results should be patiently awaited. “The election where all the votes count is vital. What we want to see is patience in the process. Sometimes the results take time,” O’Brien said.

The diplomat visited this morning the polling station installed at the Concha vídua de Graó school, located in the Graó colony.

The United States has sent 45 delegates to watch the legislative and municipal elections.

“We hope it’s a very successful day for all of El Salvador,” O’Brien said.

Days before the election, the diplomat pointed out that both the Police and the Armed Forces must be apolitical in this electoral process, after holding meetings with the Minister of Defense, René Francis Merino Monroy and Maurici Arriaza Noies.
