A military source confirmed to Efe that the aggression came from the Golan occupied by the Israeli Army towards targets around Damascus and that the defenses had overthrown most of them.

For its part, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an organization based in the United Kingdom but with a wide network of collaborators on the ground, said in a statement that the attack was directed around the area of ‘Al Saieda Zainab, south of the Syrian capital.

It is, he said, “a bastion of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and Lebanese Hezbollah.”

Israel often attacks targets of the Syrian Army and allied Lebanese or Iranian militias on Syrian territory.

The previous attack also took place on February 15 in the vicinity of Damascus and, according to the Observatory, killed nine pro-Iranian militiamen.

But the deadliest attack since the beginning of the year took place last January in the eastern province of Deir al-Zur, in which at least 57 people were killed among government soldiers and pro-Iranian militiamen.
