Tonic Games Group, parent company of Autumn boys Mediatonic developer, has been acquired by Fortnite and Unreal Engine developer, Epic Games.
Both parties shared posts on the blog announcing the acquisition moments after Bloomberg leaked the deal via a tweet. In the Epic Games release, the company notes that the game’s cross-platform approach goes nowhere, as “Epic will continue to invest in making the game a great experience for gamers across all platforms.”
Epic Games is no stranger to acquisitions, though it typically tends to focus its efforts on mergers and acquisitions in technology-focused companies, likely to bolster their unrealistic engine offerings. When acquiring game studios, they are usually the teams behind the major multiplayer hits Autumn boys and its 2019 acquisition Rocket League Psyonix developer.

In its own blog post, the Mediatonic team notes that the measure will help the studio improve Autumn boys, expand the reach of the game and help better support your sizable community. Media suggestions may be one of the areas where Epic Games can help you expand, along with other features of Fortnite i Rocket League which could reach Autumn boys including counting systems, cross games, and squad-to-squad modes.
