Prince Philip undergoes a procedure for heart condition

“The Duke of Edinburgh underwent a successful procedure for pre-existing heart disease yesterday at St Bartholomew Hospital,” the statement said. “His Royal Highness will remain in hospital for treatment, rest and recovery for several days.”

On Monday he was taken to St. John’s Hospital. Bartholomew, also from London, to continue treating the infection and what the Palace said he would be testing and observing for pre-existing heart disease.
St. Bartholomew’s specializes in cardiac care, according to the hospital’s website, which considers it “the largest specialized cardiovascular service in Europe.”

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, said on Wednesday that Philip’s condition was “slightly improving” after his move, although his treatment hurt “at times”, according to PA Media.

“We keep our fingers crossed,” Camilla added of her father-in-law, according to PA.

Both Philip and the queen have received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine.

They have spent most of last year at Windsor Castle, having moved away from Buckingham Palace during the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in the spring of 2020.

The prince took a step back from public life in 2017 and has been taken to hospital several times in recent years. In December 2019, he received hospital treatment for a pre-existing illness.
