Kyle Van Noy may not be released after all.
Following the shocking news that the Dolphins were planning to release the veteran defender, ESPN.com reports the team is now trying to change Van Noy.
Miami signed rival Patriots Van Noy for a four-year, $ 51 million deal last season. Despite a respectable season, the Dolphins are determined to move on from Van Noy and save $ 9.7 million on the cover.
Van Noy said he was “surprised and disappointed” by the decision in a statement, and now he may not be able to decide his next team.
“As a captain, I gave it my all to the team,” Van Noy said. “I struggled with a painful hip injury during the season, including spending a night in hospital after a game. They took me there to be a leader and I know my teammates looked on and respected me. I’m looking forward to impacting my next team. “
Van Noy could be the start of an NFL trend with veterans at risk with the salary cap influenced by COVID-19 which is currently expected to be no less than $ 180 million.
Paul Schwartz of The Post reported that the Giants could be a potential landing point for Van Noy, due to his familiarity with head coach Joe Judge from his days in New England.
That is, of course, if the Dolphins end up releasing Van Noy.
