Danielito “La Guineu” Zorrilla conquer the NAP belt of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) in the 140 pounds thanks to a divided decision on the Kazakh Ruslan Madiyev, but he paid a price.
The Puerto Rican boxer required assistance to get off the ring and taken to an ambulance hospital for medical attention as a precautionary measure after receiving multiple blows to the neck during the semi-stellar combat of the “Ring City USA” series that take place on the outskirts of the Félix Pagán Pintor gym in Guaynabo on Thursday night.

Zorrilla fell to his knees on the canvas after a shot with Madiyev’s right in the back of the head. I referred him Danny Guzmán gave the navel several minutes to recover, but he did not. Two doctors from the Puerto Rico Professional Boxing Commission examined Zorrilla. A few minutes later, they determined that the prudent thing was not to continue the fight.
The judges’ scores were 76-75 in favor of Madiyev, 77-74 and 77-75 for Zorrilla.
Madiyev’s offenses (13-2, 5 KOs) started early in the fight. Guzmán repeatedly warned him of illegal beatings, but they continued. I mentioned he chose to penalize Madiyev in the fifth with the rest of a point.
“All rigorous studies will be done to make sure you are physically fit. The most important thing is their health and after that we sit down to evaluate the fight, discuss the details and see what happens next, “said Bryan Pérez, vice president of Miguel Cotto Promotions.
