Paris Hilton says she was mourned after discovering that Sarah Silverman had apologized for cruelly teasing her with a dirty sex joke during a 2007 award.
“I was surprised when I read it [her apology] at first and pleasantly surprised … It was so genuine and so sweet and it moved me so much, ”Hilton said in an impromptu episode of his podcast“ This Is Paris ”on Friday.
“I was excited to hear that and I could tell I really meant what he was saying when he apologized.”
Silverman had issued his mea culprit Thursday for throwing a comic insult at Hilton during the 2007 MTV Movie Awards, which was the same day the hotel heiress was to go to jail for driving violations.
“I heard that to make her feel comfortable in prison, the guards would paint the bars to look like a penis,” Silverman said in Hilton’s time. “I’m just worried he’ll break his teeth for these things.”
Hilton, now 40, said in her podcast earlier this week that she “literally wanted to run out of the whole room,” when Silverman began cutting it.
“But I was trying to be strong and sit there while the whole audience laughed,” he said.
“It was so painful, especially with what was happening in my life, that people were so worried about it. It was very hard. “
Upon hearing Hilton’s comments, Silverman apologized to Hilton.
“I regretted the jokes not years later, but immediately,” the 50-year-old comic said in Thursday’s episode of “The Sarah Silverman Podcast.”
Silverman said that when he saw Hilton’s reaction to the joke, his “heart sank” and he actually wrote Hilton a letter of apology.
But after hearing Hilton talk about it last week, the “School of Rock” actress realized that Hilton never received it.
“So here I am, 14 years later, telling you, Paris, I’m sorry,” Silverman said. “I was then and I am, much more completely and with much more understanding, I think, now.” He added that the comedy “is not evergreen” and that it needs to change over time.
The former “Simple Life” star then recorded another episode of his podcast, saying he greatly appreciated Silverman’s apologies and that it “means a lot” and that he even had a few tears.
“I’m glad his comedy has grown and he realizes it’s not nice to make fun of people,” he said.
Hilton went to jail right after the awards ceremony ended. She spent three days in jail until she was released on an undisclosed medical condition and was arrested at home for 40 days, according to ABC.
Silverman was also killed earlier this year for jokes he made about Britney Spears during the same appearance on the 2007 MTV Awards.
“Have you seen Britney’s kids? They’re the most adorable mistakes you’ll ever see, “Silverman had said during the brutal roast, adding that at age 25 the singer” had already achieved everything she will do in her life. “
Silverman responded to criticism of the resurgent joke saying he wished he could remove it, but stopped apologizing to pop star “Womanizer.”
