Apple is working on a MagSafe-compatible battery pack for the iPhone 12, which, unlike previous Smart Battery cases on previous iPhones, will be connected to magnaPhone 12 models with magnets.
The battery pack will be easy to turn on and off on the iPhone and, as it will be easily removable, it will not be as bulky or as uncomfortable as the previous battery options designed by Apple. The MagSafe battery pack isn’t available yet, but this guide covers everything we’ve heard about it so far.
Current rumors
The signs of a MagSafe battery pack were first seen in code in the iOS 14.5 beta version, which referred to a “battery” without warning. The name was notable because there is no current product that Apple calls a battery pack, as the previous battery options designed by Apple were called smart battery cases.
After finding the code in beta, Bloomberg confirmed Apple’s work on a MagSafe battery pack, which apparently has been in development for at least a year.
Design
The MagSafe battery pack attaches to the back of an iPhone and some of the prototypes have a white rubber exterior.
The previous Smart Battery cases have been available in white, along with black and reddish pink, so we could see some of the same color options with the MagSafe battery pack. The MagSafe battery is likely to have a silicone coating similar to Apple’s siliconeiPhone silicone cases.
It is not yet known how big the battery will be or how thick it will be, but again, the Smart Battery Case can give some clues.

All the smart battery cases had a hump on the back where the battery was housed, so we could see how the MagSafe battery pack worked in the same way and it could be about the same size as the battery pack. leather wallet accessory, another MagSafe accessory on the back of a MagSafe SiPhone.
Magnetic force
In accordance with Bloomberg, Apple has extensively tested the magnetic strength of the MagSafe battery pack to make sure it stays firmly in place during charging.
Loading speed
A MagSafe battery pack might charge the iphone 12 models at the same speed as a standard MagSafe charger, although this is not guaranteed and charging could be slower due to the lack of a power adapter. The MagSafe charger charges the iphone 12, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max to a maximum of 15W and the iPhone 12 mini to a maximum of 12W, but this charging speed may not be necessary for a battery that is stay connected on the back of your phone while on the go.
Development problems
Apple has been working on the MagSafe battery pack since before the launch of the iPhone 12 models, but Apple has had software issues that have delayed the launch of the accessory.
Apple is trying to resolve an issue that causes the iPhone to incorrectly report that the battery pack is overheating and there are also issues when a user switches to using the MagSafe battery pack when a case is attached and removed. the cover.
Problems may not surprise those who have owned Apple’s previous Smart Battery cases because there have been issues with some of them. Apple in 2020 launched a smart battery case replacement program designed for the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR, as some of these cases had charging issues.
Presumed functions
Leaker Jon Prosser, who has a mixed track record in predicting Apple’s plans, says there will be two versions of the MagSafe battery pack, one of which will have “reverse charge.”
It is not clear what “reverse charge” means in this context. You may be able to charge more than one device at a time, such as charging your iPhone and AirPods at the same time, or you may be referring to the iPhone being able to charge the battery pack when connected to a Lightning cable.
Alternative options
Other companies are developing MagSafe-compatible battery options. Anker, for example, has introduced the PowerCore Magnetic 5K Wireless Power Bank, designed to attach to the back of a SiPhone MagSafe via the magnetic connection.
Anker’s magnetic power bank is not designed with Apple’s official MagSafe system and can only charge a iphone up to 5W.
Date of publication
Due to development issues Apple has encountered, it is unclear when the MagSafe battery will be released and Bloomberg he has said there is a possibility that it may finally be delayed or canceled.
