There are now more Floridians eligible to receive COVID-19 vaccines as additional doses enter and the demand for shots among the elderly decreases.
The following is a summary of people in the state who can access vaccines:
Residents 65 years of age or older
Residents and staff in long-term care centers
First-line health workers who have direct contact with the patient
Sworn police officers 50 years of age or older
Firefighters 50 years or older
Preschool employees up to 12th grade – If you are in this category and you are 50 years old or older, you can go to any vaccine site with state support. If you’re 49 or younger, you can get vaccinated at retail pharmacies and all three FEMA-supported locations in Miami-Dade County, which do accept walk-ups. University professors are no but eligible from March 5th.

Residents under the age of 65 who a doctor considers “extremely vulnerable” to COVID-19 – Be aware that not all sites will take these patients. Hospitals, doctors, and pharmacists can administer shots to patients they deem vulnerable. Three Miami-Dade sites, backed by FEMA, also offer vaccines to vulnerable patients, who must have this specific form signed by a doctor to be eligible. (Other state venues, such as Hard Rock Stadium and Marlins Park, do not yet vaccinate vulnerable patients under the age of 65). Gov. Ron DeSantis said doctors’ offices will begin receiving doses from Johnson & Johnson that they can administer to their patients who need it. Check with your doctor and also check if the place where you want to get vaccinated has vulnerable patients under 65 years of age.
