That’s what Mayor Bill de Blasio said Saturday afternoon during a new vaccination site in the Bronx.
“The Bronx will help lead the way, to lead the way in the recovery of New York City,” he said.
When the Co-Op City site reaches its peak, de Blasio says 1,000 will be vaccinated every day in the community.
“What a difference it will be,” he said.
According to the mayor, Co-Op City is one of the first places to make vaccines for seniors at home.
“Now that we have the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, we can reach the elderly in our home,” he said.
50 seniors have already been vaccinated in Co-Op City.
The number of vaccinated New Yorkers already exceeds 3 million.
On Saturday morning, the Javits Center had begun accepting appointments throughout the day to try to vaccinate more New Yorkers.
State-run vaccination facilities went into 24-hour mode.
Made possible by the Johnson & Johnson vaccine passed last Saturday, doses began arriving in New York during the week.
The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is unique, making it easy for people to get vaccinated fast.
Many were lucky enough to get an appointment on Saturday morning.
In addition, there was promising news from the mayor, as he is scheduled to make an announcement about the institutes (and when they could return to face-to-face learning) sometime next week.
The news comes as positivity rates in the area continue to decline slowly.
Middle schools returned last week.
The mayor says the goal is for all students to return to face-to-face learning, full-day training, five days a week for the start of the next school year in September.
