What Florida and Georgia Senators Said About Their Votes on the Party Line on a $ 1.9 Million Relief Bill

U.S. senators from Florida and Georgia voted along party lines, like all of their fellow senators, for the $ 1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief bill passed with a margin from 50 to 49 Saturday.

The move follows five previous measures for a total of about $ 4 trillion that Congress has enacted since last spring and comes amid signs of a possible change.

Here’s what Georgia and Florida senators had to say Saturday about their party votes:

Scott issued the following statement after Senate Democrats voted to approve the $ 1.9 trillion spending package, of which, according to Scott, less than 10% is intended to fight COVID.

“Washington is completely dysfunctional. I have always said that I want specific relief for families and businesses suffering from the pandemic. That’s why Republicans spent all night trying to work with Senate Democrats to get something that would really help Floridians and Americans across our nation who are still fighting because of COVID-19. But that’s not what Democrats wanted. It was never about helping the American people. Instead, they use trillions of dollars from U.S. taxpayers, under the guise of COVID relief, to fund their liberal priorities and pay their blue governor friends. They should really be ashamed of this political theater.

“Our nation has a debt of $ 28 trillion. With the passage of this bill, Senate Democrats have increased debt to $ 30 trillion, knowing that they and President Biden have not plan to address it or its devastating consequences for American families. At this rate and in the direction that Democrats are taking us, there is no way our nation can ever pay this unsustainable debt without significant change. It’s time to get serious about what this means for our nation to move forward. I will never stop fighting for accountability to American taxpayers and controlling Washington’s crazy spending. “
