The mayor of Salines, Karilyn Bonilla Colom, called on the management of the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTOP) and the Authority of Roads and Transportation (ACT), to take immediate action in the face of the problems it is generating the constant traffic on the State Highway Detour 180, intersection with the Paseo Manuel González, towards the Platgeta community.
“Unfortunately we have the second death in less than a month at this intersection. Not a week goes by that we don’t have reports of car crashes in this area and we’ve been asking in writing for the DTOP and ACT to do a study of traffic so that they install a traffic light or some other security measure that addresses this problem, “said the former director of the State Agency for Emergency Management and Disaster Management (now negotiated).
A man driving a motorbike died last February when he was hit by a car and yesterday there was another accident in which a 14-year-old teenager died. The mayoress also pointed out that in effect, state agencies installed an instrument for the study of traffic in the area “but that was a year ago, but we do not know the result of it.” This diversion in the PR 180 was made to be able to manage the heavy and regular traffic of the urban core and has become one of the main ones in Salines.
“There is nothing that can compare the pain of families who lose a loved one to an accident, and I repeat, in less than a month we have had two fatal cases in this area. This situation must be resolved immediately. “If we had the force of law in the municipality to have solved this, it would have been done a long time ago. But it is in the hands of the central government agencies”, concluded Bonilla Colom.
