Well, Nintendo and Sony have their joysticks adrift, but Microsoft is currently facing its own set of driver issues for this generation’s Xbox Series X and S, partly a takeover of the latest generation and, if you have them, you are not alone.
Microsoft has recognized an ongoing issue with face buttons that do not respond to the current Xbox driver:
“At Microsoft, we put all of our products to rigorous quality assurance testing and are committed to providing customers with an unprecedented gaming experience. We are aware that some gamers may be unresponsive with their new Xbox wireless controllers and our teams are actively working on a solution. For the best experience, we encourage customers to visit Xbox Support for help. “
There are no solutions at this time and you may be able to change it under warranty, but this process can be a bit difficult. For an example of what’s really going on, you can watch this video of Jake on YouTube showing the appearance of a Y button that doesn’t respond to tests:
Probably an unresponsive face button is probably a worse overall problem than the joystick drift, the main problem with Sony’s PS5 controller, in the game moment by moment, though it’s unclear to what extent the button issues they are widespread. But when they struck, they struck hard:
Considering we’re talking about a four-month window since the launch, that’s … pretty bad.
Microsoft, like Sony and Nintendo, has already faced a class action lawsuit for driver issues, but that era for joystick drift, it’s actually a less publicized issue with the Xbox controller, but occasionally it’s the same. But they certainly do not want to face another problem related to buttons, so they will try to fix it in a short time.
This seems to be a pattern among modern drivers and it’s easy to go through several in a generation, not for any kind of abuse, but for normal wear and tear that creates problems with joysticks, battery life or now, the buttons. Even Microsoft’s expensive Elite drivers have had similar problems to this one in the past, so it’s not even a completely new problem.
Clearly, more work needs to be done to ensure the lifespan of these drivers, as more and more technology is trapped as generations go by. But the basics seem to be the ones that fail, the joysticks and buttons, and there’s no end in sight for any of the major players right now. For Xbox, stay tuned for possible fixes for this particular button issue.
