Bus finds World War II plane at the bottom of the sea: VIDEO

Mexico City /

A bus sank in the deep waters off the coast of Croatia and managed to capture shocking images of a plane shot down from World War II. The Slovak Martin Strmiska traveled to the island of Vis in hopes of finding the famous B-17 bomber, called ‘The Flying Fortress’.

Although it was not an easy adventure, the 40-year-old got it. The B-17 is an American heavy bomber used during World War II. The aircraft was designed by Boeing Aircraft in response to a 1934 Army Air Corps specification that asked for a four-engine bomber, At a time when both engines were the norm.

The plane made its last flight in November 1944 bound for Vienna, before suffering too much damage and having to make an emergency landing in the Adriatic Sea, a few 50 kilometers from the Croatian coast. The crew evacuated in inflatable rafts.

The remains of the B-17 in the seabed of the Adriatic Sea are one of the best-preserved remnants of World War II aircraft due to its depth of more than 60 meters, which certainly makes it difficult for divers to reach.

Images by Martin Strmiska show a plane to which time the water went down is charging you an invoice, Because although its tip is crushed, the cockpit is visible as the windshield is completely shattered.

The plane’s wheels have started to sink, so It is unknown exactly how long the remains will remain before disintegrating.. Its engines and wings are covered in dead algae and crustaceans.
