Clint Butler, a 36-year-old British man, had eluded police for months after escaping from prison in November. But the staff rose after he ventured into hiding to buy a copy of “Call of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War,” according to West Midlands police.
The fugitive, who had served a 14-year sentence of 17 years for theft and possession of weapons, was captured in Birmingham on 13 January after officers observed him and a friend changed direction suspiciously after seeing police, according to the press release.
When an officer asked Butler and his colleague why they were in town during the pandemic closing, his friend replied, “I came to get the new ‘Call of Duty’ because I can’t sit in the closing.” , officials said.
The fugitive admitted he was carrying marijuana and allegedly gave a fake name to police, according to officials.
When officers said they would direct information from the unsuccessful duo, Butler confused the violent video game for real life and attacked police officers, throwing punches and punches, police said.
He is now back in jail and ready to do two more years for getting out of jail and attacking officers.
“It was a great job for our officers, who acted on instinct that something was not quite right and challenging the men,” West Midlands Police Superintendent Nick Rowe said.
“The situation escalated very quickly, but both computers put their training into practice by restricting Butler, subjecting him and carrying him in handcuffs safely, while at the same time demanding the backup of nearby agents.”
