“I think part of saving the Republican party is to be very clear about what has become of the Republican party,” Kinzinger said. “I think we have such a fantastic story, but now we’re off the rails.”
“We have entered en masse, you have to be this or that. I just want you to tell the truth to the American people, “he said of the CAP in February.” And I want you not to walk around in conspiracies and use some optimism from time to time, this is a pretty low bar, but it’s a low bar that eliminates a lot of people. ”
Recent polls, however, show a solid majority of Republican voters supporting the former president, even after the Jan. 6 uprising.
Late last month, Kinzinger said the Republican Party runs the risk of being reduced to minority status in both houses of Congress “forever” if it does not make great efforts to get past Trump.
“I don’t know how this is, all I know is that I can rest in real peace knowing that I will fight as hard as I can to get a Republican party that works normally,” he said.
A pro-Trump Republican has announced her intention to run for Kinzinger in her next election.
