In a fun pre-season clash, Puerto Rican New York Mets reliever Edwin “Sugar” Díaz poncho with his fast straight to his compatriot and veteran St. Louis Cardinals receiver Yadier Molina on Tuesday in a Major League preseason game .
In the high of the third inning with the San Luis up 2-0, Diaz needed just five pitches, all strikeouts, to pull off the nine-time 38-year-old National League Golden Glove. The last he sent was a 97-mile high straight that Molina did unsuccessfully. During the clash of compatriots, Diaz’s teammate, also Boricua Francisco Lindor, called from the dugout to get Molina out of focus.

After poaching, Molina exchanged smiles with her compatriot and then threw flowers on social media with the video of the ponchete.
“My brothers love you … you’re ready. I didn’t even see the last one”, Wrote Molina.
“Leader, my respects. My brother was a healthy chorus. Lindor was screaming. He had a good time brothers,” he replied.
Diaz finished the entry blank, with two strikeouts, and the Mets eventually won the game 5-3. Molina finished 5-0 with two strikeouts. Lindor saw no action at the meeting.
Diaz, 26, is in his third season with the Mets as a potential taper in the ninth after regaining his form in last season’s abbreviated MLB 60-game season after a disastrous debut in 2019 after being changed from Seattle.
Molina, meanwhile, will play his 18 seasons in the Majors, all with Sant Lluís.
