Alabama man reportedly linked up with Oath Keepers for alleged involvement in Capitol riots

A 33-year-old Alabama man linked to far-right militia group The Oath Keepers was arrested Tuesday for his alleged role in the Capitol insurgency, according to court documents.

Joshua James, of Arab, Alabama, was charged with obstruction in an official proceeding, aiding and abetting, as well as infraction in restricted buildings or land.

“James and other guardians of the oath stormed the Capitol, forcing the Electoral College’s vote certification to be stopped,” the complaint states.

James is described in the document as having been dressed in military gear adorned with an Oath Keepers patch, which points to his connection to the group. Photographs and videos taken after the Capitol storm also show James with a group of Oath Keepers.

“The publicly available video shows that after attacking tthe Capitol, James met with charged and unencumbered people affiliated with the Oath Keepers, many of whom had also stormed the Capitol and some of whom James had acted all along January 5 and 6, 2021, ”the complaint says.

According to reports, telephone records obtained through a search warrant placed James at the Capitol at the time of the riot. The same records show that he had been in contact with other guardians of the oath, many of whom were charged last month.

The Oath Keepers are one of the groups investigated for their conspiracy to try to stop the January 6 election certification.
