Utah governor says Republican Party should focus on something more than “having the books”

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox (R) urges members of his own party to focus on more than cultural wars with Democrats.

“Being more conservative than having freedom is more,” Cox said during an interview on the “Lewis Lewis and the News” podcast released Wednesday.

He added: “I still believe in a Republican party and a conservatism that raises everyone and really deals with opportunities for everyone, and we don’t do it by alienating people or ruining people’s lives or again only in these false controversies. , these false decisions that we continue to present people “.

Cox criticized Republican lawmakers for not prioritizing political issues affecting the average American and instead focusing on winning the other side.

“I’m very worried that … we’ve lost our way, our core values as a party,” Cox said. “It looks like we’ve just defined ourselves in opposition to what the left is doing.”

The U.S. deficit is one of the issues Republicans have begun to ignore, Cox said.

“No one has increased the deficit in the last four years,” he said, arguing that politics needs to be put at the forefront of the political conversation.

“These are the conversations we should have and unfortunately we are not. We are devoting more time to Dr. Seuss and Mr. Potato Head,” he said.
