Former giant Janoris Jenkins published by Saints

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Saints have pitched starting quarterback Janoris Jenkins in another roster aimed at helping the club lower the NFL’s $ 182.5 million salary cap this season for the 2021 season.

Saints general manager Mickey Loomis announced the release of Jenkins on Thursday, a day after New Orleans informed receiver Emmanuel Sanders and defender Kwon Alexander that they would be cut.

Jenkins started all 13 games he played in 2020, tying the team with the most interceptions with three. He made 54 solo or assisted attacks and was credited with 12 defended passes.

Jenkins ‘reduction will lower New Orleans’ salary cap by about $ 7 million. The Saints still had to eliminate about $ 25 million in payroll for the start of the new league year on Wednesday.

Jenkins, who started and played in 53 games for the Giants between 2016-19, had 12 interceptions and two touchdowns during his time with Big Blue. He has 26 interceptions and eight touchdowns in his career.

He also played four seasons with the Rams when they were in St. Louis. Louis.

These most recent Saints cuts are the latest among more than a handful of featured veterans to be posted, including tight ends Jared Cook and Josh Hill, and pointer Thomas Morstead.

The Saints have yet to retain the services of defensive end Trey Hendrickson, the club’s 2020 leader, who will be due to become a free agent next week.
