“Even contemplating doing any kind of blockade is frankly crazy,” DeSantis said during a press conference in Florida, while promoting the state’s efforts to administer vaccines to seniors and other populations.
“This will not happen in the state of Florida,” the governor continued, referring to restoring restrictions. “We will continue to do what works, but in no case would we entertain anything like that.”
Biden has repeatedly promised not to block the country, but warned Thursday night in a prime-time speech that some restrictions might need to be revised if current downward trends change and the virus reappears.
He stressed, however, that his administration is focused on helping the nation return to normalcy.
“Even if we dedicate all the resources we have, overcoming this virus and returning to normalcy depends on national unity,” Biden said. “And national unity is not just how politics and politicians vote in Washington, what the strongest voices say on cable or the Internet. Unity is what we do as fellow Americans. Because if we don’t say vigilance and conditions change, we may have to reset the restrictions to get back on track. “
“And please, we don’t want to do it again,” he added.
Biden devoted much of his speech to discussing the administration’s drive to increase the production and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines and presenting his new $ 1.9 trillion relief bill.
“Biden said last night that maybe they should impose more blocking policies in the future. I can tell you it doesn’t happen in Florida. We won’t let him block Florida,” DeSantis pledged Friday.
