Washington, United States
The World Health Organization (WHO) on Friday gave its emergency approval to the single-dose Janssen vaccine from the US pharmaceutical company Johnson & Johnson.
“Each new, safe and effective instrument against covid-19 is one more step towards controlling the pandemic,” commented CEO Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
This is the fourth authorization given by the WHO for the emergency use of a vaccine. The first to receive it was the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine and then the AstraZeneca vaccine, either produced in the plants of this pharmacy or manufactured by the Serum Institute of India with its permission. .
These two vaccines need a DBLE dose and the Pfizer can only be stored at ultra-cold temperatures.
For its part, the drug Janssen can be kept in a classic refrigerator.
With this approval, the vaccine can integrate the COVAX program, founded by the WHO, the Alliance for Vaccines (GAVI) and the Coalition for Innovation in Epidemic Preparedness (CEPI), to distribute vaccines to countries developing.
