Police capture Jaume Perla, indicted for the crime of sexual harassment against a Channel 10 journalist

Police have reported that the arrest took place in Sant Miquel.

This Saturday night, Jaume Ulisses Perla Flors was captured, appointed to harass Channel 10 journalist Wendy Hernández.

The National Civil Police (PNC) announced the arrest through its Twitter account and reported that Perla, who is a member of the ARENA party, was arrested in Sant Miquel.

“We captured Jaume Ulisses Perla Flors from the ARENA party, for the crime of sexual harassment to the detriment of the Canal 10 journalist,” the institution published in its profile.

“The crime of sexual harassment is provided for and sanctioned in art. 165 of the Penal Code. This offense occurred when the journalist reported live from a hotel in the capital, on the development of the scrutiny end of the 2021 Elections “added the Police.

The Prosecutor’s Office reported that the arrest had been issued since March 9 and during that time work was underway to locate Perla.

The incident occurred on Sunday, March 7, when the communicator was conducting a live report on the final scrutiny and approached to interview Perla.

The TSE revoked Perla’s credential hours later and the communicator filed a lawsuit with the Attorney General’s Office.

This was the second case of sexual harassment that occurred during the final scrutiny of the last election, the first was that of Roberto Silva against MP Karina Sosa and former parliamentary candidate Daniela Genovez, both of the FMLN .

Silva was sent to prison for the crime of expressions of violence against and faced an initial hearing on March 12. He is also on trial for the crimes of illegal dissemination of information, harassment through information technology as reported by the Prosecutor’s Office.

The process went on for investigation, so the detainee will remain in jail while the prosecution continues with the investigations.

Silva, who runs a Youtube channel with content related to the Nayib Bukele government and the New Ideas (NI) party, was singled out by the victims for “defaming them and assaulting them.”

The events took place in a hotel in San Salvador where the Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) held the final scrutiny of the legislative and municipal elections of February 28. Silva entered the hotel with an accreditation in which he identified himself as an employee of Radio El Salvador.

“This day we have obtained a historic resolution in El Salvador. A resolution that sets a precedent, a precedent in which we must work in the country to eradicate violence against women,” the prosecutor in the case said.

He indicated that the Prosecutor’s Office was able to prove with the documentary, expert and testimonial evidence “the existence of the crimes” attributed to the accused.

“With these elements of evidence, the judge has decreed formal detention with the precautionary measure of pretrial detention,” he added.
