Mayor Bill de Blasio on Sunday called on Governor Andrew Cuomo to resign from his “almost imperial government,” insisting he will help save lives.
“I should resign right now because it maintains our efforts to fight COVID. Right now, it’s literally saving our lives, “Blasio insisted in a heated interview with CBS’s” Face the Nation. “
“Andrew Cuomo cannot lead us to the future. We have the people, the state ready to reopen, but we have to get it out of the way to do it, ”said the mayor.
The mayor repeatedly targeted his enemy throughout the interview, blaming him for the Empire State response to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as for suspending the supply of vaccines for the Big Apple.
He also accused him of deliberately hiding the number of deaths from the virus in nursing homes to continue earning millions in “campaign contributions.”
“It was a totally corrupt situation and he just has to resign,” de Blasio said.
But Hizzoner predicted that Cuomo would not stop and that he would have to be charged.
“I think he’s going to try to hold on … I think he’s used to doing things his way, and it’s been almost an imperial government,” Blasio predicted.
“But I have to tell you, the people of this state and the political leadership no longer believe it, it has no credibility,” de Blasio insisted.
“I think the prosecution process will begin. And I think he will be fired and maybe just before he decides to resign. That’s probably the most likely outcome right now, ”he predicted.
De Blasio made the call without mentioning the allegations of sexual harassment Cuomo faces, prompting many of the demands for his resignation.
Assembly Democrats on Thursday gave the green light to an investigation into the governor’s removal.
