In news that is sure to make you feel old, God of War II is celebrating its 14th anniversary this weekend. The game, which was released on PlayStation 2 after the launch of the PS3 – is widely regarded as a classic, with its scenery larger than the life and overall mastery of Sony’s hardware. He also saw Cory Barlog take over the reins of series director David Jaffe.
And writing Twitter, admitted that he had “no idea what the hell he was doing practically all the time.” He added: “Every day I felt like I was being thrown on the opening night of the stage to perform a musical I hadn’t even heard of, let alone rehearsed. Fortunately, every step of the way has inspired a brilliant team ”.
One of our favorite memories of God of War II is the documentary included on the DVD, in which a clearly baffled Barlog explains how to make a sandwich:
Barlog eventually left Sony Santa Monica and worked in several studios, including Crystal Dynamics and Avalanche, before returning to PlayStation to direct the series’ recent award-winning bounce. As for what’s working now, well, we know God of War Ragnarok is just around the corner, but it looks like the developer has a lot more up its sleeve.
