How to use Google Maps as a social network

These profiles open up another feature in Google Maps: follow and follow. The idea is that you want to follow local experts assessing your opinions about places to visit, as well as friends and family. To follow someone in the Google Maps app for Android or iOS, tap their name in a review or rating, then choose Carry on.

To see your own followers, use the shortcut mentioned above in the Google Maps app: To contribute, then View your profile. Tap the button Followers link (which will have a number next to it, even if it is zero) to see who is following you. You can also see the people you’re following (and stop following people if necessary).

To manually approve each new follower you get, tap Edit profile, then Profile and privacy settings from your profile and activate the file Restricted profile switch. When your profile is restricted, only your followers will be able to see your reviews and ratings on Google Maps, as well as the list of people you’re following.

Use the news channel

Google Maps will recommend some local recommendations.

If you touch Updates then For you in the Google Maps mobile app, you’ll see a type of news feed – including updates for people and businesses you’re following, as well as updates for nearby places that Google algorithms think might interest you (menu changes from the local restaurant, for example).

Tap the three dots at the top right of any item in this feed to find options for editing some of the ways the feed works: you can specify areas you’re interested in and not interested in, indicate which updates match your tastes. and that no, and much more.

If you tap to open the file Explore and open the info tab below, you’ll see a similar list of updates based on the area you’re currently in. We noticed some overlap between the two screens in terms of the photos and updates that were shown, but if you’re in a new or unusual place you don’t visit often; the Explore tab is likely to be more useful.

Add scores and reviews

Your reviews and ratings are public by default.
