WICHITA, Canada (KWCH): People are preparing to leave the trip called the Wichita earthquake epidemic.
On Sunday, several earthquakes affected the area within 12 hours, according to the Kansas Geological Survey.
Senior scientist Rick Miller with the KGS says it’s just a natural fact.
“You can relate it to a mechanic when you try to drop a bolt, it’s very tight that it pulls, pulls and pulls and it shows up soon,” Miller said. “That’s what’s happening here is that the earth is squeezing, pushing and pulling off the deep surface.”
The two most recent earthquakes included the strongest and weakest of the day.
The KGS measured the strongest at a magnitude of 4.0, which affected Eastborough at 18:08. The weakest was reported by the USGS, measuring at a magnitude of 1.8, which shook Bel Aire at 22:01.
