Sales of restricted PS5 units below PS4 are less than 1 percent in the US

PS5 PlayStation 5 USA: Hardware Sales 1

How well does the PlayStation 5 sell? Absurdly good in the United States, according to NPD data. We already know that, during its first four months on the market, it is the fastest selling system of all time in terms of dollars, but what about the units? Well, seconds analyst Mat Piscatella, lags behind the PS4, by less than 1%.

“PS5 is a very close second (less than 1%) in hardware unit sales in the U.S. after four months of market in NPD tracking history,” he wrote in Twitter. “Statistical deadly heat.”

This is obviously a hugely impressive result considering that the PS5 costs more: the PS5 Digital Edition matches the PS4’s price of $ 399.99, but the model that includes a disk drive sells for $ 499 , $ 99 and has been heavily supplied during a pandemic. Obviously, the PS4 was also hard to find around the launch, but it had no coronavirus to fight with.

It will be interesting to see the performance of the PS5 when it is more readily available and the world starts to return to normal. What do you think of the commercial trajectory of the new console?
