Elliot Page revealed that he underwent major surgery as part of his transgender journey.
The star of “The Umbrella Academy” said the surgery, which removes breast tissue to produce a more masculine look, changed lives.
“It has completely transformed my life,” he told Time magazine in a cover story.
Page said surgery doesn’t define being trans, but it provided him with freedom from the “total hell” that was puberty and allowed him to finally recognize himself when he looks in the mirror.
The “Juno” star revealed she was recovering from surgery when she came out as a transgender in December.
“I feel lucky to write this. To be here. Having reached this place in my life, ”wrote Page, 34, in his social media ad. “I feel an overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me on this journey. I can’t begin to express how remarkable it is to finally feel loved who I am enough to pursue my true self. “
His wife, Emma Portner, said she was “so proud” of Page to go out and live authentically, but they have since decided to separate; Page that filed for Portner’s divorce in January.
“After much thought and reflection, we made the difficult decision to divorce after our separation last summer,” the couple said in a joint statement. “We respect each other and continue to be close friends.”
The divorce came just three years after the couple married in January 2018.
Page and Portner, both born in Canada, have been very public about their love for each other, including once topless and kissing on a June 2019 Instagram post titled “HAPPY PRIDE !! ! Sending love “.
