Police: 1 dead, 2 arrested at Boise State University

Boise, Idaho police say they have two suspects in a deadly shooting that happened near a residential complex of Boise State University students

BOISE, Idaho – Two suspects have been arrested in a deadly shooting on the Boise State University campus, police said Tuesday.

Officers responded to a call about shots fired around 11:30 a.m. Monday night, according to Boise police. They found a man lying on the street with gunshot wounds who was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, according to a police statement.

A white passenger vehicle was seen fleeing the area after the shooting and, shortly afterwards, officers attempted to drag a similar car about 3.2 kilometers away from the shooting scene, according to the statement.

A man fled the car but was arrested a few blocks away, according to the statement. Police said another suspect in the area was also arrested after officers chased him on foot.

The identities of the victim and the suspect were not made public immediately. Police also did not disclose details of how the shooting unfolded.

The media reported that the university’s BroncoAlert messaging system warned the campus community that there had been a shooting in the vicinity of Jade Hall, which has student housing.

A second alert urged people to take refuge instead. A clear Tuesday was sent early Tuesday, less than an hour later.

The Boise State University campus is located in an urban setting near downtown Boise, surrounded by neighborhoods and local businesses.

Mike Sharp, a spokesman for the university, did not immediately respond to emails, social media and phones seeking comment.
