From high fever to dry cough, coronavirus is known to be associated with a number of unpleasant symptoms.
Now, new data shows that for one in five people who capture Covid-19, their only symptom is a rash.
In another 17% of cases, the rash is the first symptom before others develop later.
Rash manifests itself in a variety of ways, including hives or lumps. They have been recorded all over the body.
The data comes from the ZOE symptom tracking app run by researchers at King’s College London (KCL), which has been Covid operational throughout the pandemic.

For one in five people who catch Covid-19, these are just symptoms of the rash, according to new data. In the picture, a case of “Covid digits”

More than 400 people submitted images, which have now been published in an online database called Covid skin signs. The extent of the eruptions is amazing, manifested in hives (pictured) or elevated lumps and seen throughout the body.
ZOE data found that people who tested positive for Covid were 67% more likely to develop a rash than someone who was not infected.
Another independent study was conducted on 11,544 people who were asked to also provide images of their eruptions.
“Surprisingly, among respondents to the independent online survey, we found that 1% of SARS-CoV-2-positive cases reported rashes as the first presentation and 21% as the only clinical sign of COVID- 19 “. write the researchers.
The study was published in the British Journal of Dermatology and more than 400 people submitted images, which have now been published in an online database called Covid skin signs.
Images are classified based on the type of rash they are and include “covid digits”, “purpuric”, “oral” and “uticarial”.
Rash manifests itself in a variety of ways, including hives or lumps. They have been recorded all over the body.
“Rashes are grouped with other symptoms of COVID-19, are predictive of a positive swab test, and occur in a significant number of cases, alone or before other classic symptoms,” the researchers write.

The eruption of this individual was classified as pink pitirias, a type of eruption that begins as a single red, scaly area that extends through the torso and upper extremities.

Some of the more than 400 people who posted pictures of their Covid-related rashes to Covidskinsigns.com also reported oral rashes.
“Recognizing eruptions is important to identify new and previous cases of Covid-19.”
The coronavirus attacks various body systems and therefore there are a number of symptoms of Covid-19.
But only the NHS recognizes the symptoms of the ‘classic triad’ of a dry cough, fever and loss of smell or taste.
Loss of smell and taste was officially recognized as a symptom of Covid on May 18, 2020.
In June, KCL scholars called for rashes to be considered the fourth official symptom of Covid.
Recently, KCL researchers again called for policymakers to expand the set of recognized symptoms.
They said expanding the list of symptoms to include fatigue, sore throat, headache and diarrhea would detect “millions” of unconfirmed cases.
Current testing and tracing standards mean that swabs are only reserved for people with a fever. continuous cough or loss of smell or taste.
Professor Tim Spector, chief application scientist Zoe, an epidemiologist at King’s College London and co-author of the latest eruption-related study, said in February: “We know from the beginning that we only focus the tests on the classic triad of cough, fever, and anosmia misses a significant proportion of positive cases.
“In May we identified asthma as a symptom and our work caused the Government to add it to the list; it is now clear that more needs to be added.
“By inviting users who register any new symptoms to take a test, we confirmed that there are many more symptoms of Covid.”
