Packers use a restricted second-round tender to TE Robert Tonyan

The Green Bay Packers are once again stepping on Robert Tonyan in a restricted free agent contest.

According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Packers offered Tonyan the second-round bid, which cost $ 3.384 billion in 2021.

Restricted bidding is a one-year guaranteed agreement. It allows Tonyan the opportunity to sign an offer sheet with a different team, but if the Packers don’t match the deal, the team should send a second-round pick in the 2021 draft to Green Bay, setting a level of compensation that should deter teams from making the move.

Tonyan grabbed 52 passes for 586 yards and 11 touchdowns over 16 games in 2020. He averaged 11.3 yards per catch and 9.9 yards per goal while catching 88.1 percent of his goals.

According to Silverstein, the tender could be a prelude to the Packers negotiating a long-term deal.

Tonyan is one of six restricted free agents, but is the only player expected to receive an offer from the Packers.
